Be Brave Studio
Being Brave is not easy...
Tracy B. Brave is a Canadian contemporary mixed media artist, symbolic visual storyteller, and imaginative painter. Born in 1965, she holds a Bachelor of Interior Design, a Bachelor of Fine Art, and a Diploma in Ceramics, foundations that inform her deeply tactile, interdisciplinary approach to artmaking. Her daily practice weaves together paint, textile, and clay to explore themes of identity, aging, self-sovereignty, and transformation.
Brave is deeply influenced by the surrealist spirit of artists like Frida Kahlo and Leonora Carrington, whose dreamlike imagery and unapologetic self-exploration echo through her own work. She also draws inspiration from folk art traditions and the diverse cultures she has encountered through travel, each journey offering new textures, stories, and symbols. A full time artist since 2018, her art is in private collections within Canada, U.S., Mexico and U.K. Ever curious, Brave collaborates with fellow artists and travels the world to research new projects.
Her work is rich with recurring motifs, moons, clowns, coyotes, and the female figure, each a portal into the liminal space between the seen and unseen. Through hand-stitched embellishments, weathered surfaces, and sculptural detail, she evokes memory and magic. For Brave, art is both mirror and medicine, a daily ritual, a tether to self, and a vessel for storytelling. She believes that creativity is a sovereign act available to everyone, at any stage of life. Through her evocative portraits, landscapes, and mixed media forms, she invites viewers to embrace the mystery, the wild, and the wondrous within.
